My prom is on the 25th of May! My hair is up + braided with wispy curly pieces and is brown. My skin tone is yellowy I suppose but I’m really stuck on makeup ideas! Any help’? xx — scale-me-down

Hopefully I’ll be able to give you some ideas! Your dress is a lovely color and actually both a light makeup look and a more dramatic eye look could look great. So it really depends on what you’re comfortable with!

Above is a more dramatic look, which is matched with light pink on the cheeks and the lips. It is actually pretty easy to recreate this look, and you could also attempt it with brown or plum if blacks seems too much. You’ll need a few colors of eyeshadow… 2-4… in the same color family, with at least one for highlight and one dark shade for the lid. You’ll also need some pencil eyeliner (black is best) and mascara, with false lashes if you desire! For this exact look:
1. Apply a medium charcoal shade all over the lid, avoiding the crease and the inner corner. Use a blending brush, a Q-tip, or your finger to blend the eyeshadow into your crease, which will soften the edges and give you a smokey look.
2. Use a “best friend color” in your crease, blended up towards your brow bone. A “BFC” could be any light eyeshadow with minimal shimmer… in the picture above, you can see just a bit of a reddish-brown blended there. You could use a light pink similar to your dress color - it would look very nice and is still subtle. This will soften the dark color and bring sophistication to it.
3. Use the first color from Step 1 to line your eyes… apply just a small line along the lower lashline, and blend it up to meet the eyeshadow on your lid. You could choose to skip this step altogether to keep your eyes a little lighter!
4. Apply a highlighting shade, which will be a very light color, just underneath your brow, on the inner corner of your eye, and on the inner part of your lid.
5. Put on your eyeliner and mascara, and you’re done!

Another idea would be to keep it light. I picture light lids, a brown crease, and slightly winged eyeliner with pink on the cheeks and lips.

Have fun at your prom! :)
